At least 48,000 Rohingya babies set to be born in overcrowded refugee camps in Bangladesh in 2018

New figures reveal that more than 48,000 Rohingya babies are expected to be born in Bangladesh this year, beginning their lives in refugee camps and makeshift settlements where families rely on food rations to survive and live in flimsy tents made of plastic and bamboo.

Few of these babies will be born in health facilities, and from day one will be at an increased risk ofgetting sick, suffering malnutrition and therefore dying before the age of five, warns Save the Children.

Southern Vietnam awaits strong winds and deluge of rain after Cyclone Tembin lashes Philippines

Communities in southern Vietnam are bracing for heavy rains and powerful winds this Christmas Day, when Cyclone Tembin is expected to make landfall in the very south of the country.

 

Tembin, currently a category one cyclone with winds gusting up to 148km/h is expected to weaken slightly to 135km/h before making landfall to Vietnam, as reported by Meteorological Department of Vietnam.

Seven children, including a six-month-old baby girl, killed in Yemen bombing

Sanaa, Yemen, 21 December 2017 - Save the Children strongly condemns the Saudi-UAE led coalition airstrikes on Bab Najran in Saada last night which killed 11 and injured 8 civilians, and sends a strong reminder to all parties to the conflict of the importance of protecting civilians and respecting International Humanitarian Law.
